BASS FAMILY
Willam Copeland son  of Lawrance Copeland,  Married Mary Bass Webb Widow of Christopher Webb Jr.(daughter of John & Ruth Alden Bass( ruth Alden was daughter of John & Priscilla Mullins (Longfellows Mayflower Immigrants mention in his poetry}

The surname Bass is from the french "bar"  meaning low stature and is derived in the same way as the English Short, stout, etc. Le Bar became  common in England after the Revocation ot the Edict of Nanter. The sur name  Bass dated back centuries, however in England an ancient coat -of- arms of the family is; Sable a bordure argent, Crest; Out of a ducal coronet two wings proper. anoter coat of arms borne by the family of Bass of Curzon St. Myfair: Greyhounds heads erasd sable each  ducally gorged and chained of as many cross croslets of the last. Crest: out of mmural crown gules masoned argent a demi-greyhound issuant holding in the mouth a rose between teo leaves all proper.

( 1 ) Samuel Bass, the immigrant ancestor was born in England in 1600. He came to New england with his wife ann about1630 and settle in boston. He was among the earliest members of the Roxbury church, which was organized in 1632 . He lived near  Hog Bridge, Roxbury He moved to Braintree in 1640 and became one of the leading  citizens. He was Chosen the first deacon of the church. He hada strong character and a vigorous mind and was for many years one of the foremost men of the town . he died Dec. 30 1694 aged 94years  , at his death  he was father, grandfather,and great grand father to 162 persons. his wife Ann died Sept. 5 1693 age 93 years

(2)  John son of Samuel Bass was born in Roxbury , Ma. in 1632 died at Braintree Sept. 12   1716  aged 84 yrs.  He was a farmer in braintree. he Married (1)  ?Feb. 3 1657-58 Ruth  daughter of   William & Pricilla (Mullins) Alden of the company of Mayflower Pilgrams (all decendents of John and Ruth  Bass are eligible to membership  in the  Mayflower Society. She died Oct. 12 1674. he married (2) Sept.  21, 1675  Anne Sturtevant of Plymouth  Children born at Braintree.

Samule(3)  (2) son of John Bass  was born  March 25 ,1660. He married Mary (Adams)? Webb daughter of
Joseph and Abigail adams.

(4) Captain Jonathan Bass, Son of Samule(2) Bass born in 1695, died 1783. He married Susanna Bryman. Their daughter Mary  married Hugh Orr, ancester of Susanna Keen  Who merried Rev. Edmund Addison  Beaman.
